Things to Know About the Coverage and Exclusions in BMW Warranty

A lot of people are now moving towards buying luxury cars and BMW is most sought after for its reliability. However, this does not mean that there is no need for a warranty or insurance for your vehicle. With a BMW warranty, you get complete protection against any unexpected uneventful incident with your vehicle.

A variety of warranties are on offer from BMW with the basic option covering 50,000 miles or 4 years, whichever is earlier. There are also corrosion warranties that give coverage up to 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever is earlier. Apart from the two, there is roadside assistance warranty and a power train warranty as well which provides the same coverage as the basic option along with few other add-ons. When you have your warranty from BMW, you can be rest assured that you will get only hi-tech workmen or craftsmen handling your vehicle in case of any damage or defects.

What Is On Offer?

In order for you to make optimal usage of your warranty, you need to be aware of what it covers and what it excludes. In general, a warranty will cover the following:

  • Engine parts
  • Propeller shaft
  • Steering controls
  • Brakes and the brake system
  • Electrical parts like the air conditioning in the vehicle
  • Transmission (both manual and automatic)
  • Suspensions – rear and front
  • Final drive assembly

The warranty can be transferred to another person if the vehicle is sold.

What Is Not Included?

Generally, any upkeep and maintenance related charges are not covered in the warranty. Basically any adjustment required on your transmission or the engine or in general on the body of the vehicle, you will not be able to make use of this warranty. Neither does the warranty cover the everyday wear and tear. While the repairs may be done under the warranty, there will still be handling charges of approximately $50 levied every visit.

Why a BMW warranty?

The main reason to buy this would be to save money as it provides your vehicle with a comprehensive insurance protection. You can either get it from your dealer itself or buy it from other providers which might work out cheaper. When you buy a new car, your warranty starts from the date of purchase for either 50000 miles or 4 years, whichever is earlier. This warranty continues even despite an owner change in between. In the duration of first year, the warranty also covers any alignment defects and balancing issues while paint work is warranted for 36 months of the purchase. The tire warranty is from the tire manufacturer and it works accordingly. If required, you can make an additional purchase of breakdown warranty for 2 years or 50k miles.

What makes BMW warranty special is their sophisticated servicing and the sensors installed in the vehicle which can detect the need for servicing based on different factors. This information is displayed to the owners when starting the vehicle who can then service based on requirement.
